Open Access for Theses: how to deposit - UCL.
If you are submitting your thesis as a non-registered student you may have to pay a submission extension fee. f you do not submit your thesis by the end of your period of completing research status, your registration as a student will end. At this point you will need to apply for permission to submit your thesis.
Submission of theses for Examination. PhD Researchers who are not members of staff of the University should submit two soft bound copies of the thesis for examination in the first instance. If you have been a full-time member of staff for a period exceeding two years, or part-time equivalent, then you should submit three copies.

I just submitted an incomplete PhD thesis. Meaning I submitted an introduction, 3 good chapters, a 4th very bad draft chapter and no conclusion. I just did not have the time. I did not sleep during the last 48 hours before submission. I submitted for the University of London.
Due to the current Coronavirus pandemic, the requirement to submit two hard copies of your thesis at this stage has been waived. You would only have to submit hard copies at a later stage if your examiners specifically request them for the viva.

Your final thesis must be submitted online by uploading to Spiral (the College’s digital repository). Please note that your submission will be checked by Research Degrees before being released to the Spiral team in the library, and your thesis will only be made available publicly on expiry of any agreed embargo.
